We must sadly write to let you know that our dear founder and friend, Bill Roberts, passed into the presence of his Lord on the 9th of April after many months of declining health. We remember Bill’s wife, Jan, two sons, Paul and Jamie, and their wives and children in our prayers at this time.
For some of us, our relationship with Bill has been one of many years, and his impact on our lives has been significant. His loss is deeply felt by multitudes of people around the world as he led a long life of selfless service to the Lord in Nigeria and Sierra Leone as well as in his native UK.
I first met Brother Bill in 1977 as a new missionary to Sierra Leone. He was already prominent within the evangelical community in Freetown and beyond through his role in Scripture Union, and was both respected and loved. In his and Jan’s later years in Sierra Leone he started a programme of in-service training for pastors in remote towns, which was called Travelling Bible School. And he also set up a ministry of support for new believers from Muslim backgrounds who were experiencing ostracism and persecution because of their faith in Christ.
Finally, Bill and Jan set up Support EFSL as a UK charity to continue and expand the ministries in Sierra Leone that were dear to their hearts. It is our privilege as the current trustees of Support EFSL to carry on Brother Bill’s legacy.
Many have communicated to us with their own words of tribute. Please see some of these below.
Faithfully in Christ,
Rev Kenneth Wiebe
Chairman
